Appalachian Cryptids

The Not Deer is a creature said to inhabit the Appalachian Mountains with most sightings being in the state of Tennessee. The animal is characterized as looking like a normal deer at first glance, but upon closer inspection, it becomes apparent that something is off with its anatomy and behavior.

The Grassman (also known as the Ohio Grassman, Kenmore Grassman or Orange Eyes) is a tall, bipedal hominid that stalks the woods of Ohio, hence the name Ohio Grassman. It is reportedly very similar to Bigfoot. It seems to be much more aggressive than any other Sasquatch species.

The Sheepsquatch, also known as the "White Thing", is a woolly-haired cryptid reported across numerous counties in West Virginia, predominantly within the southwestern region of the state. The counties with the most sightings are Boone, Kanawha, Putnam and Mason, with a surge in sightings taking place in Boone County during the mid-1990s.

The origins of the Tennessee Wildman goes way back to the 1800s in McNairy County, Tennessee. One of the stories is that a circus freak showman somehow captured the beast and put him on display in a cage to where everyone can see him for exploitation until it finally broke free. The description of the Tennessee Wildman is much similar in appearance to Sasquatch but only more human

The Goatman is a humanoid cryptid most commonly associated with Louisiana, Maryland and Texas. It is described as a seven foot tall hybrid creature; part man and part goat. Some claim it is a relative of the New Orleans evil chupacabra-like cryptid the Grunch.

The Flatwoods Monster (also known as the Braxton County Monster, Braxxie (by locals), or the Frametown Monster) is a cryptid sighted in the forests of Flatwoods, West Virginia and Frametown, West Virginia, respectively. It is believed to be of an extraterrestrial nature.

The Wampus Cat, also known as the Wampus Beast or Cherokee Death Cat, is a large panther/cat-like creature in American Folklore. Its origins are thought to have come from Cherokee Mythology and tales of the lumberjacks, and can range from frightful to comical depending on the region.

West Virginia has played host to an extraordinary number of unusual creatures. They range from the widely known Mothman of Point Pleasant to the Flatwoods Monster in Braxton County. Few people, however, even within the state itself, have heard the strange case of West Virginia's own Vegetable Man.

The state of West Virginia has had its fair share of strange and often inexplicable events such the visitation of the Flatwoods Monster and Indrid Cold, but perhaps the strangest yet is the arrival of the creature known as the Mothman, which changed the sleepy little town of Point Pleasant forever when it swooped in one cold autumn night in 1966.
